- a screenshot or short screen recording, if it helps show the issue.
Common questions & troubleshooting
The live wallpaper isn't showing up, or it appears and then disappears.
First, check that Loopaper is running — its icon sits in the menu bar. Playback pauses when a display's desktop is covered, the Mac is locked, or the screen saver is running. Battery and Low Power Mode lower the coverage threshold and may cap frame rate; they do not pause playback on their own. Bring the desktop into view to resume. If one display stays blank, open Loopaper and check whether its wallpaper is set to Off. Still stuck? Email us with your macOS version and the steps that reproduce it.
The wallpaper stutters or doesn't loop cleanly.
Loopaper normalizes heavier or awkwardly-encoded clips when you add them, so most videos loop smoothly. If one judders, try removing it and adding it again, or use a standard H.264 or HEVC .mp4 or .mov file — very long, very high-bitrate clips are the usual cause. Smoothness comes from the clip's encoding, not from your Mac working harder.
Does the live wallpaper hurt performance or battery life?
Video wallpaper uses processing power and battery. Loopaper uses native video playback, pauses when a display is covered or the Mac is locked or showing a screen saver, and reduces work under power pressure. Battery or Low Power Mode alone does not stop animation. CPU use depends on the number of displays and the resolution of your clips.
Can I use a different wallpaper on each display?
Yes. Loopaper appears on every connected display and handles plugging or unplugging a monitor automatically. Open the Loopaper window to give each screen its own clip, choose Fill or Fit per screen, or turn the live wallpaper off on one display so your usual macOS wallpaper stays there.
Where is the companion screen saver?
The screen saver is a separate, free download because the App Store app cannot install it for you. Download it from the screen saver page, install Loopaper.saver, then choose Loopaper under Others in System Settings → Screen Saver. In the Loopaper app, turn on Keep it in sync with my wallpaper. The saver follows the resolved clip on your main display, or you can choose a specific clip in its Options. Without a shared or selected clip, it plays its bundled sample.
How do I update Loopaper?
If you installed Loopaper from the Mac App Store, updates arrive automatically, the same as any other app — you can also check manually in the App Store's Updates tab. If you installed it directly from our site, download the latest version from the Loopaper site and replace the app in your Applications folder. We announce new releases on the site.
How do I uninstall Loopaper?
Click the Loopaper icon in the menu bar and choose Quit, then move Loopaper from Applications to the Trash. Imported videos and settings may remain in Loopaper's Application Support directory, and published desktop stills may remain because macOS Spaces can continue referencing them. If you use the companion screen saver, its shared clip may remain in Movies/Loopaper. Delete personal data only after checking which wallpapers and Spaces still use it. The separate Loopaper.saver can be removed from your Screen Savers folder.
How do refunds and billing work?
Loopaper has a free tier and an optional one-time Pro purchase that removes the watermark from new imports. There is no subscription. Eligible existing installations may already have Pro through grandfathering. Apple handles App Store billing, and you can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
