Loopaper is a native macOS app made by Mohammad Aljarad. Your wallpaper library is stored locally. Optional sync uses your private iCloud storage, and purchases use Apple's App Store services. Loopaper has no developer-operated backend, analytics, advertising, or tracking, and no separate Loopaper account.
The short version
Loopaper does not send your library or usage analytics to the developer. It communicates with Apple for purchase availability and entitlement checks, and for iCloud sync when you enable it.
Your videos, images, and settings are stored locally on your Mac. Optional sync uses a private CloudKit database associated with your Apple Account in current provisioned builds. Older direct-download builds may use an iCloud Drive folder. Both use Apple's infrastructure; neither uses a Loopaper server.
The rest of this policy spells out the details.
What we collect
The developer does not collect or sell your media or usage data through the app. Apple processes information needed to provide purchases and optional sync under its own policies. Information you choose to send to our support email is received and used to respond to your request.
Specifically, Loopaper does NOT:
- Track you or your activity, in or out of the app.
- Use analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or any usage measurement.
- Show ads or work with advertising or data-broker networks.
- Require or create an account, profile, email, or sign-in.
- Operate any Loopaper servers — there is no backend to send data to.
- Send your wallpaper library to a developer-operated server.
There is no Loopaper database of users because there are no Loopaper users on any server. The app simply runs on your Mac and does its job.
Your media and settings are stored locally
When you add a video, image, GIF, or Live Photo to Loopaper, the app copies that file into its own local Application Support folder on your Mac. Your library, per-display assignments, playlists, schedules, fit modes, and other preferences are likewise stored locally on your Mac.
The Mac App Store app is sandboxed. With screen-saver syncing enabled, it also publishes a copy of the selected clip to ~/Movies/Loopaper for the separately installed companion. Desktop and lock-screen still images are retained so older macOS Spaces do not lose their referenced files; deleting a library video does not automatically remove these stills. This retained storage grows with the wallpapers you use. Your media is uploaded to Apple only if you enable sync.
Optional iCloud sync
Loopaper offers an optional iCloud sync feature, which is turned OFF unless you choose to enable it. When enabled, your Loopaper library and setup follow you across your own Macs.
How it works and what it means for your privacy:
- Current provisioned builds use your private CloudKit database; older builds may use iCloud Drive. Sync stores copies of your media and supported settings with Apple under your Apple Account.
- Sync connects your Macs through Apple's infrastructure, not directly over a peer-to-peer connection. The developer has no Loopaper server receiving your library.
- Because iCloud is an Apple service, Apple's handling of data stored in iCloud is governed by Apple's own privacy policy and terms. We encourage you to review them.
- You can turn iCloud sync off at any time in the app.
If you never enable iCloud sync, none of your content ever leaves your Mac through Loopaper.
The website
The Loopaper website is a simple static site that exists to describe the app. It does not run analytics or tracking, set advertising cookies, or ask you to sign in.
Like essentially all websites, the site is served by a hosting provider. If the site is hosted on a service such as Cloudflare Pages, that host may automatically keep standard server access logs (for example, IP addresses, timestamps, and the pages requested) as part of normal operation and security. Those logs are handled by the hosting provider under their own policies, and Loopaper does not use them to identify or track you. This is generic, infrastructure-level logging common to the entire web, not something Loopaper adds.
Payments and in-app purchase
Loopaper offers an optional one-time lifetime unlock through the App Store. There is no subscription. Existing eligible installations may retain a grandfathered Pro entitlement.
Apple processes payment details. Loopaper uses StoreKit to load the product, verify purchase entitlement, and restore purchases when requested. It does not receive your credit card number. Apple's handling of transaction data is governed by its own privacy policy and terms.
Children
Loopaper is a general-purpose wallpaper utility and is not directed at children. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at the address below.
Third parties
There are no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in the app. Apple provides StoreKit and optional iCloud sync. The website host may keep standard access logs, and our email provider handles messages you send to support.
These providers handle information under their own privacy policies. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.
Security
Because Loopaper keeps your content on your own Mac and transmits nothing to any Loopaper server, the most important protections for your data are the ones already on your device — your Mac's user account, disk encryption (such as FileVault), and your overall device security.
If you enable optional iCloud sync, your synced content is protected by Apple's iCloud security as part of your Apple ID. We recommend keeping macOS up to date and securing your Apple ID with a strong password and two-factor authentication.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when features or data handling change, or to clarify wording. We will revise the "Last updated" date and publish material changes on this page.
